Try it! Improv theatre for your Team Building!

More and more companies and other professional organisations are taking the leap and calling on improvisation trainers to lead their team-building activities!

With Atlas, impros du monde - Brussels, we have trained through numerous experiences and workshops and now offer this type of service. How does it work? Why turn to improv? We decode everything here.

WHY ?

We are seeing more and more connections between the skills developed through learning theatrical improvisation and the skills needed in the professional world. The key? Teamwork. Improvisation is rarely done alone, it relies heavily on the collective. Thus, learning improvisation means learning to work together, to listen to each other, to build together... all while having fun! So, we tick all the boxes for the perfect team-building activity: getting to know each other through games, learning new things, and developing ways of working that can be brought back to the office.

FOR WHOM?

For everyone! Shy or not. When we prepare an improv team-building, we obviously take into account that not everyone is necessarily comfortable with improvising or speaking in front of others... we plan progressive games that help everyone feel at ease, creating a playful and relaxed atmosphere without judgment. It's an essential part of the facilitation to create this, allowing participants to feel good, to experiment without fear of being judged. The key principle of these sessions: make mistakes (because it's okay!) and support each other! Once these principles are established, everyone relaxes and has fun!

HOW?

The more we do improvisation, the more we become aware of all the benefits and skills it can develop. This is called "applied improvisation," which means using improvisation not as an end but as a tool. A tool for creating connections, building self-confidence, expressing oneself, and sharing. We then discover that depending on the objectives, we can create themed workshops, always playful, that explore one of these aspects. That's how we decided to create several modules for our team buildings: FUN when the main objective is to have fun and step out of the comfort zone together, SHARE when we want to emphasize discovering each other and sharing experiences, and COMMUNICATION when we want to think about how to communicate better within the team. In 2024, we led two very different team buildings: the first with a team from the company Odoo Belgium, with only a small group and a goal of fun and exploration, and the second with the European Commission (European Research Executive Agency) for a group of 65 people divided into several sub-groups, addressing the theme of communication from different aspects (better communication, expressing needs, problem-solving), always in a fun atmosphere with games that encourage self-reflection and team reflection!

GOING FURTHER

And it doesn't stop there. With Atlas, we also want to develop applied improvisation in other settings: working on memory with seniors, building trust within vulnerable groups, and creating connections with multilingual audiences. Improvisation can also help with non-violent communication, language learning, or even preparation for job interviews, public speaking for conferences, or developing group creativity. In short, we have not yet finished exploring applied improvisation and the benefits of improvisation in our personal or professional lives!
