For several years now, Brussels has been home to a unique project combining theatre, creativity and the Spanish language. This journey began in 2021 when, at the initiative of Laurie Andrieu, the very first Spanish-language improvisation workshops were launched in collaboration with the Maison de l’Amérique Latine. Interrupted by the uncertainty of the post-COVID period, the workshops were unable to continue on a long-term basis.
In 2024, a new milestone was reached with the creation of two organisations: the non-profit Atlas, impros du monde – Bruxelles and La Théâtral. This dual momentum made it possible to professionalise the project and offer a real programme. In May and June 2024, a series of Spanish-language improvisation workshops was organised, followed by a landmark event: Hispaimpro, an improvised show in Spanish performed by Dan Gelbard and Laurie Andrieu and organised by La Théâtral. Staged at Metaprosa in June 2024, this first show attracted a curious and enthusiastic audience, confirming the growing presence of Spanish-language improvisation in Brussels.
Buoyed by this enthusiasm, weekly workshops were then launched—first at Théâtre l’Improviste in Forest, and later at KosmoStudio in Saint-Gilles. These regular gatherings bring together people from different countries (Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, France, Mexico, etc.), united by a shared desire to explore theatrical improvisation in Spanish within an open and welcoming environment. In June 2025, the students of the improvisation course presented a wonderful show at Théâtre l’Improviste.
In November 2025, the second edition of Hispaimpro confirmed the project’s momentum: a sold-out house and an audience bursting with energy. This success reflects not only a growing interest in Spanish-language improvisation, but also the cultural vitality of Brussels and the desire to build bridges between languages, artistic scenes and communities.
This project is fully aligned with the mission of Atlas, impros du monde – Brussels: to open up spaces for play, encounter and connection through artistic exploration. And this is only the beginning!
Many thanks to our partners at La Théâtral for making Spanish-language improvisation in Brussels a reality.
¡Nos vemos en escena!
