Our multilingual improv night was incroyable/amazing/increíble!

On January 24, 2025, you were there at the Maison des Cultures de Saint-Gilles to dive with us into the world of multilingual improv theatre with two shows presented by ASBL Atlas, impros du monde – Bruxelles!

At the beginning of the evening, you attended the show Scenes of Improvyglot, performed by the participants of the multilingual improvisation workshops Improvyglot. A beautiful performance, full of madness and everyday poetry, inspired by words written on little pieces of paper by the audience at the entrance.

Thanks to your suggestions, we embarked on adventures in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Italian! The words that inspired the stories and took us to so many different worlds were proposed by you: polyamor, bonté, IKEA, frites, Colombia mágica, paella, soft, saudade, bombero, museum, stramuson, abioccio.

Don't know all of them? Go check out what they mean! ;)

In the second part of the evening, you attended a short version of Babel Games, the professional multilingual improvisation show in Brussels. This performance, blending improvised games, language, gestures, and emotions, illustrates a form of understanding that goes beyond words.

We discovered that Schadenfreude in German means the joy felt at another's misfortune, that Kiša (rain in Croatian) can inspire a cozy cooking contest scene, and that people can quite literally have "other cats to whip," according to the French expression.

A unique improvisation moment in French, English, Spanish, Dutch, Greek, and Moroccan with Laurie Andrieu, Dan Gelbard, Billy Kissa, and Khalid Benaouisse!

Want to see more? Babel Games is performed every month at Réservoir Bar (Marolles district), and you can book your tickets here.

As you’ve probably realized, you don’t need to be a polyglot to enjoy multilingual improvisation. On the contrary, these shows remind us that beyond the languages we speak, we all have the ability to understand each other and laugh together.

Thank you to our staff and volunteers: Hilario for sound & lights, Thomas at the entrance, Aurielle our photographer, Jeremy and Ramen for the video, Dan and Laurie for the organisation! Thanks to the Maison des Cultures de Saint-Gilles, and most of all, thank you for your energy and inspiration!

Merci ! Thank you ! Danku ! Gracias & more !
